The Second Sky (part 2)

Leah asks if Sela and Rovan already loved each other; days later, a missing ridge sled signals the winter crisis.

Sela and Rovan argue over rescue plans, then compromise on a five-person team with one light sled and minimal gear.

The rescue party finds six stranded travelers below a broken ridge and prepares to abandon cargo to save them.

Rescuers haul an injured traveler up a collapsing slope; Sela cuts the trapped cargo loose so everyone survives.

Eleven exhausted travelers take the long route home under the aurora, carrying every survivor but little of the lost cargo.

The town shares scarce supplies, Sela and Rovan acknowledge each other’s judgment, and a messenger reports another missing sled.
