![Mabel watches an old yellowed baby monitor on Evan’s coffee table late at night, beside batteries, a mug, and a glass of water.](https://storage.ghost.io/c/e8/88/e88830a3-d951-4682-b91c-ff9b3de17f28/content/images/2026/07/sun_monitor_first_sounds-3.jpg)

I left it on channel two for about an hour. Mostly static and what sounded like someone washing dishes.

Then a woman said something like, “No, she’s asleep. Leave it.”

A little later the same sounds started again. Same dishes, same pause. Except this time I heard, “No, he’s awake. Leave it.”

I may be forcing words onto static after listening to it too many times. No lullabies, but something at least.

Recording attached. Headphones probably help.
